The actual building is pretty much the same now as it was in 1974.
But, what was a street for vehicles in front is now a large recreational square (a ‘parvis’), which the Mairie de Paris uses for many activities for all Parisians, throughout the whole year, regardless of season or weather.

I’ve got a strong sense of deja-vu here, ever though, as far as I can remember, I’ve never seen the Hotel de Ville.
I wonder if it appeared on a jig-saw puzzle I once did, or something?
Could be. Rod, my husband, loves puzzles and he and my son often do one at Xmas, usually with a travel/architectural theme.
