Stonehenge: 1974 and 2012
My cousin recently found an old photo of me and family friends standing next to one of the huge stones inside Stonehenge, UK, in 1974. In those days it was possible for visitors to go into the inner circle of monumental stones. However, access to the inner circle was forbidden in 1978, due to vandalism and the rising number of visitors. Nowadays, you can only enter during special limited-number tours that have to be reserved well in advance.
So, I feel very honored to have had that experience (above in 1974).
Many years later, I was able to return to Stonehenge. It’s still a wonderful experience even if we can no longer enter the circle. The circular path around the outside allows pretty good views from almost every angle and with the aid of the excellent audio-guide we get a really good idea of what’s what. More on Stonehenge soon—it’s an amazing site.
