This luxury guesthouse is at 20A Vrijthof, the main square in Maastricht.
This was a designated conference hotel and we are so happy we chose it. First, it’s right in the old city and not stranded way out by the MECCA (Conference Center), and so is close to many attractions and places to eat (unlike the other conference hotels). It’s actually right on the huge main square of Maastricht, the Vrijthof, which is lined on one side with cafes with pavement terraces, and dominated on the other by 2 famous churches—Sint Servas, and Sint Janskerk.
But, most of all we are glad as this is a lovely place, run by really welcoming friendly people. They’d emailed me before as to ETA as it was a Sunday when we arrived and someone waited after hours for us. It’s in an old mansion on the corner of the square that has been remodeled and redone. It’s not very big—8-10 rooms I’d say—but they are nicely done. We had a comfort room on the top floor, which was huge by Dutch standards, with sloping ceilings and 2 slanted windows letting in lots of light and air. It’s more like a mini suite/small apartment really, as there’s a couch, a table and 2 chairs, a small fridge, coffee and tea kettle and a few basic plates. Plus a huge bathroom with walk-in shower.
The staff greet you as you go out and come in, and go out of their way to give local advice. The price is not bad either. Breakfast is not included but can be arranged if you wish. We didn’t have breakfast as there’s an Albert Heijn (supermarket) close by, and we bought a few morning basics.
Definitely recommended, and this is where we’ll try to stay when we return to Maastricht.
